As a consequence of his actions, he has been demoted and will no longer be overseeing the team that covers Congress or be active on social media. "Jonathan Weisman met with today and apologized for his recent serious lapses in judgment. Jonathan Weisman, the deputy Washington editor for The New York Times (NYT), has been demoted after a pair of incidents in which he ignited controversy on Twitter (TWTR), the newspaper said Tuesday. Because it sounds to me like you're longing - like trumpy does - for a North-Korea-like propaganda outlet. Should the media just ignore anything that demonstrates the negatives of the Trump era?Ĭurious minds want to know. How does one report on Trump's horribleness and his administration's misdeeds and incompetence without revealing that horribleness and the misdeeds and incompetence? I'm very curious.įor example, do you think it is partisan to note the gigantic turnover in his administration, how many of his nominees have been forced to take back their nomination because they hadn't been vetted properly? Do you think it is partisan to note all the environmental rollbacks the Trump EPA is doing, which will have enormous consequences for nature? Is it partisan to quote the president's own insulting tweets? You need to read several and opposing viewpoints to get something closer to real news and analysis. Credible, objective, nonpartisan media is dead.
The US used to be lucky in this regard, when compared to the editorial standards in other countries. I have come to see the NYT as the Catholic Church - they think they know it all and are making an effort to "educate" us the plebe. The only thing the WaPo and NYT provide are blatant bias to suit their left-wing narratives. Believe it or not, we are quite able to form our own opinions after reading the facts.
Readers don’t need to be told what to think. WaPo and others are providing that, or attempting to. Not everyone knows everything, follows all subjects. People who pay attention know the background, the relevant history. Merely providing the facts, though, doesn't actually inform. You expect NPR to have a left leaning bias, but the NYT was not that way two decades ago. I understand that journalists have bias, but NYT and WaPo take it over the top. Too much of the press had become ‘opinion’ and ‘analysis’ instead of true journalism. Because I think the press should simply report on events and provide facts.
That the media is terribly biased and it’s difficult to believe what is in the newspapers. In all three countries, I hear the same complaints. I have close family in three other countries and we discuss politics all the time. Anonymous wrote:OP, if it makes you feel better, this is a problem in other parts of the world also.
